Zambia is planning to introduce sales tax

Zambia will abolish Value Added Tax (VAT) and replace it with a non-refundable sales tax in April, Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe said on Monday, a move likely to help the government boost revenue collection and bring down mounting debt.

Mwanakatwe said the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) would finalise audits of all outstanding VAT refund claims and collect any unpaid taxes before making the change.

Russia looks at Zimbabwe for Diamonds

The world’s largest diamond producer by output, Alrosa of Russia, is interested in investing in exploration and mining in Zimbabwe, while also exploring the prospects of bilateral co-operation in technology transfer.   CEO of the Mirny-headquartered firm, Mr Sergey Ivanov, has already met President Emmerson Mnangagwa and is keen on moving into Zimbabwe.   Harare is crafting a new diamond policy and the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Mining Company will be unbundled to open the sector to private investors.
